Narrative Reflection
There were a couple things that I have learned while delivering my speech. One to be confident, if you are not confident it will be difficult to have an effect speech for one to understand and actually be able to have feeling for your speech. Another thing I have learned is to have eye contact with your audience, if not you will not have their attention by looking at your hands or by looking at your feet. When looking into your audience you are bound to have a connection and they will be more attentive to you. Another is being loud and making sure everyone can hear you if not then no one would pay much attention to you. These are many lessons that I can benefit from and use for my following speech so I can have an effective speech and make sure my audience understands my speech.
Listening to other student’s deliver their speech taught me that having emotions during their speech grabbed more attention to the audience and had a more effective response. A student will most likely pay attention to the person making noises in their story to than to another student who is looking down in nervousness. You learn different things when you’re up telling a speech than when someone else is telling a speech. You can see some who is nervous or some who are confident and it helps you see that being nervous is something you shouldn’t have to be because these are your classmates and they are feeling just the same. Benefiting from this I know I need to go up with confidence and I will have a great effective speech.
There are a few tips of advice that I can give fellow students. Number one is to be confident and have faith in yourself. You can do this and as long as your confident in the subject matter in which you are speaking it will help you benefit and give a great speech. Number two would be to have eye contact with your audience, if not you will most likely lose their attention because you are not focusing on them and telling them about your speech. Students want to be able to interact with the speaker and understand what they are speaking about. Number three would be make sure you are speaking properly no cursing or slang language because that is not professional. The last tip would be to make sure you are properly prepared for your speech and that you have all the materials you need and make sure all your information is correct. These are tips that could be very useful for fellow students to help them have an effective speech.

Question 1
I have learned many skills and concepts during the first month in this class. Beginning with how to make the communication process effective, starting with eye contact, speaking properly, being prepared, and having a common understanding with the audience these were a few concepts that we have discussed during class. Many of these concepts are what I have used throughout my life when making speeches in High School. We have learned how to choose a topic for your speech and it would be helpful to choose a topic in which you feel comfortable talking about and have much confidence with the topic you have chosen. I’ve learned about two new ethics in which we should avoid in public speaking which are Ethnocentrism and Egocentrism. Ethnocentrism is when one believe their culture is better than other cultures and Egocentrism is when everything is about you or being self-centered. These are two concepts in which one should avoid when speaking to an audience make sure you grasp the attention of everyone when talking about more than one person in good means and talking about all cultures being equal and not your culture being better than another.
In class we also learned about having equal opportunities in group projects. Make sure one listens to everyone’s ideas and share then and incorporate them in your work, share the responsibility in your groups work with everyone, and make sure everyone is acknowledge for their work and part in the group. I also learned about a few concepts. Number one being IBC which is your Introduction, body, and conclusions of your speech. Number two is Kiss meaning Keep it short and simple, meaning make sure your speech is short but has an effective meaning. I also learn about citations making sure you quote the person in which you have taken the information from, or cite what website, book or magazine you have taken your information from. The last concepts I learned were the types of speeches, prepared speeches that are informative, persuasive and general occasions, impromptu speeches which is when one receives information and is expected to make a speech about it that same day.
Question 2
My learning techniques have changed since I have entered this course. I began by starting to use some of the concepts of making eye contact when speaking to people, speaking properly and making sure you are effective when speaking and they have your attention. My time management skills have grown more during this semester as I learn to be on time for class and start your work earlier. My learning attitude has changed because I’ve used some of the techniques of being able to have an effective speech or an effective conversation with someone by using the concepts learned in this class. In this class I have learned so much in the first four weeks that I will continue to use to have an effective speech in this class as well as having effective conversations with professors, friends or other students.
Question 3
My instructor’s teachings are great, the power points in class are very helpful and the examples discussed help the class and myself to have a better understanding of the concepts. I love how we are engaged to give our own opinion in class and discuss as a whole group how everything in a speech should be and how we should present ourselves during a speech. When we speak and discuss certain concepts as a whole class it allows myself to have a better understanding because I am able to learn different things because each student has different examples that could help. I love the power points in class and how we are all able to discuss as a class the concepts of an effective speech that can help one make great communication with others.

Reflection Journal 2
There are many things that I have learned throughout the past few weeks from the first presentation until the last. There are many students who have different ways of projecting themselves in front of an audience. Some students have confidence and show that within their speeches by their movements and knowing their information. They are able to explain their topics with confidence and show they are not nervous. Other students may show they’re nervous by shaking or stuttering certain words on slides, and always referring to the slide. Not everyone is the same, there are many who are able to speak to an audience but then you have others who are not able to. Evaluating the other students was great. I was able to see where they made mistakes and how I can refrain from doing the same mistakes. It allowed for me to be better and have confidence when I was up for my speech. All the students did a great job on their speech.
Chelsie’s informative speech stood out the most to me because I had no idea the amounts of bottles we throw out every four seconds. I was very shocked to see the truck filled with so many bottles. It taught me that we don’t have to keep buying bottled water. We can all simply buy a plastic bottle and fill it up with water. It was said that tap water is just as good as bottled water and I will use this tip from now on and use plastic bottles and refill them.
Philip is the one classmate I feel has strong leadership skills and great interaction with the class. He focuses on the main points and has eye contact with the students. This showed he is confident and has great leadership skills. When he presented his informative speech, he showed how he was ready and confident to teach us about how important breakfast is. It was a great speech.
Ja Ashia has great collaboration skills. She has shown through our classes how she works well with others and can help you achieve greatness in class. She gives great feedback when explaining how people can do better for the next speech. This is very helpful to the students so they are able to change and do better for the next one.
Philip and Kyle have had the best evaluations for students in my class and for myself as well. They point out the negatives and positives in our speech and how we can all do better by taking their feedback into consideration. I found it very helpful when Philip said I did great and had great eye contact with the class. This will help me keep up the good work and be more confident for my next speech. I can stay consistent and do great each time especially when I will take the feedback given from my classmates and use it toward my next speech. I have learned to be confident, and believe in myself that I can succeed and do well in this class all because of the things I have learned within the past two months.

Reflection Journal 3
In my persuasive speech I have learned that I have the potential of being able to persuade people into doing well in their academics and the examples that I have given were able to be explained more in depth because doing well in classes is something I highly believe in. In my speech and with other speeches, we all executed great communication with the audience. Some students could have persuaded the audience a bit more. I felt that some students didn’t have anything to persuade us with it was more of an informative speech. Other students did a great job with their speech. I have noticed everyone has progressed and learned from their mistakes from their first speech. Everyone seems to be more confident and had more eye contact with the audience. It was great to see how everyone has grown in this class and became more comfortable with each other and how we can all take one another’s advice and use them toward our next speech. Many students including myself have learned to be more effective when speaking, have eye contact, look less into the power point and look directly to the audience and grab their attention. In the end everyone has done a great job and has grown to learn and use the advice toward their speeches and deliver an effective speech. I can say I am very proud of my class and how well everyone has been doing.
The persuasive speech that stood out the most was Latise’s of becoming an organ donor. I feel that becoming an organ donor is very important. If you put yourself in a situation and you or your family may need an organ and you are a donor you can help or find someone else who is a donor. I know I would appreciate it if I found someone who was able to help my family, myself or even my friends. Latise knew her information and did a great speech in persuading us as to why we should become organ donors and I have been an organ donor for two years now. It sure feels great knowing that I may help someone or more than one person in the future.
The classmate I feel that shows great leadership skills would be Emily, she has such great advice for all of our students and she will explain what the person should stop doing and start doing to perfect their speeches. She has much confidence and great leadership skills. She knows how to help one out and she shows it when she speaks in her speeches as well as when she explain in the evaluations of other students and it takes a great leader to be able to pin point the exact mistakes of someone and help them. She also has great leadership skills in her speech talking directly to the audience and making eye contact as well as being confident with herself and explaining to us about eating healthy.
The classmates I feel has great collaboration skills is Ja’ Asia and Alyssa. They both have shown leadership skills as well as taking charge when we were doing our evaluations together as a group. Each one of them showed their leadership skills and told us what we should do and write. They made sure we discussed our evaluations before we wrote them down. Each one of them shows great collaboration skills in groups when working together and how we should evaluate the other students.
I was not given an evaluation from the class at the end of my persuasive speech but I can say the evaluation from my informative speech is what helped me be successful in this speech. The two people Kyle and Philip have given me great advice that I used towards this speech. Having great eye contact with the class and being confident. It has helped a lot. I have learned so much in the past months to believe in myself that I can succeed and do well in this class.
